Periodontal service (Periodontics)

Periodontitis refers to the accumulation of tartar and the unavoidable treatment of scaling and root planning. Although the word root planing may be new to most people, it can be explained as making the root smooth by the complete elimination of tartar, microorganic stains and diseases attached to the root until its surface smooth. The treatment also helps the gums adhere to the root well again.

Treatment summary

  1. The treatment includes scaling and root planing where scaling takes place on both the surface of the teeth and the periodontal gap and the root planing makes the root surface smooth for the gums to adhere properly to the surface of the teeth. This process may have to be repeated several times.
  2. Approximately 4 – 6 weeks after the treatment, the dentist will call for a checkup on whether the wound has healed and if there is any periodontal gap remaining or if a lot of the bone has disappeared. Some cases may require a gum operation (Periodontal surgery).
  3. The patient must clean the tooth and the gap between the tooth and gums correctly and regularly. As a minimum, brushing teeth and flossing must be done every day to completely eliminate microorganic stains.
  4. Visit the dentist every 6 months to check whether there is any remaining microorganic stains or tartar from cleaning your teeth by yourself and if you need to receive the treatment in the first step again.
